Get Rid of the Grey Once and For All! Part Two

I wrote back in late January that I was thinking of changing my hair color.  I was tired of my natural brown that has been with me most of my life.  And I shared that if left unattended, I would be salt and pepper grey.  I am TOO young to be grey.

So I decided that I wanted to make a change, possibly to a carrot top red for the fun of it.  Many of you made suggestions as to various colors of red, and I thank each of you.

Shortly, though, after my original post, I ended up in the hospital for eight days with Congestive Heart Failure.  This slowed me down some on the search for a new hair color.

A week after being sprung from the Cardiac Ward, I returned to the idea of the hair color change.  I made an appointment with my hair dresser, Teresa Lantz at the Morgantown (WV) Mall JC Penny.

Now before I go further, I must tell you a bit about Teresa.  She has been doing her job for over twenty-five years.  She still looks twenty-one, acts like eighteen, and loves life as much as I do.  She is a mom, a grand mom, a wife, and a darn good friend.  She is also a biker chic and rides with her husband and girl friends.  (Next week she is scheduled to be in Daytona Beach, Florida, for biker week.  The girl has guts.)

OK, back to the hair.

I shared with Teresa what I wanted to do.  She pulled out the color charts and samples and we looked at various reds against my skin tones.  She said she could pull off the carrot top look but suggested against it.

“Do you trust me?” she asked with her usual hint of mischievous play.

I did, and thus allowed her free reign with my hair.  Here is what she did.

First was a color all over called Red Coppertone.  This gave a dark red base with a hint of gold in it.  Next, she applied several foils of light blond chunks to the top portion of my head.  After this she cut and styled.

When she finally rolled me around to the mirror I was in awe.  The color was bright, alive, sassy.  The cut was soft and feminine with a touch of flirtation and extremely easy to manage and care for at home.

Needless to say, I LOVED IT!  So thanks a billion kazillion, Teresa.

Now I am off to the Opera. (just kidding – I am really going to hear the punk band at the 123).

imageHere I am the day after the color and style.  The picture absolutely does not do justice to what Teresa created.

Note from Rev. Carol:  The point of this entire transformation, I think, is not so much a new hair style or color, but a statement that congestive heart failure and cardiac problems are NOT going to color or shape Abby’s life.  In the midst of what could be gloomy days and a drab outlook, she maintains a childlike delight in living and in life.  There are no greys in Abby’s attitude.  There are no greys in Abby’s presentation of hope and possibility.  There are no greys in her faith and her desire to share the joy of Jesus Christ in all that she sees, says, and does.  Even her occasional tears sparkle with the rainbow of promise, and she lives in the brightness of God’s eternal  love.  She would sparkle even without the new hairdo.
