Review of The Voice New Testament
As a student in seminary, I was encouraged to experience God’s Word from my personal context, as well as viewing the interpretation of others. This version of the New Testament is ideal in its freshness and insightful comments for people of the twenty-first century. For the person familiar with Scripture, it offers opportunities to ask, “Is THAT in there?”, compare with other versions, and discover new clarity of meaning.
For the new student of Scripture, this book is readable, clear, interesting, informative, and faithful to the traditional meanings, while offering contemporary patterns of speech. The italicized passages are sound additions, the boxed explanations are excellently written, and the format is lively and easy to enjoy.
I find this offering to be theologically sound, aesthetically inviting, and surprisingly engrossing. I recommend it for persons of all ages and stages of biblical literacy, from first time readers to long time students of the Word.
My only disappointment is that I see no women among the list of Biblical Scholars, although there are several among the contributing writers and editorial reviewers. The voices of female theologians and scholars may have added even greater depth to the translation itself, as they do to the expansion and clarification of the text.
The scholars and artists who have formatted this testament have presented us with a gift.
This reads like a novel and blesses like the Spirit of the Living God.
